Letter from the Pastor
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 9, 2023

Thank you, Bob.

The Gospel reading at a daily Mass about two weeks ago was from The Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 6.  Jesus instructs his disciples, telling them, "Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. ….Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

Many of you may have known Bob Curry.  Perhaps many of you did not.  Over the past 20 years Bob worked tirelessly in our parish food pantry.  His quiet, subtle presence helped direct and guide the countless number of dedicated and good-willed volunteers to make the food pantry such a successful outreach to the community.  Bob was always respectful, caring, and very quiet about it all.  He didn’t do it for the accolades but because it is what we are called to do, “feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the sick,” also from the Gospel of Matthew [25:36-40.]

Bob entered the loving embrace of God to receive the Father’s recompense on May 30, 2023.  After his wife, Joanne, died in November of 2022, Bob moved to Lafayette Hill, PA to be closer to his children.  It took a while for the news of Bob’s death to funnel back to us.  We had already felt his loss when he moved, but now we feel the grief that accompanies the death of our brother and friend.

We offer our prayers of great thanksgiving for both Bob and Joanne, for their goodness, and for their example.  Thank you for sharing your lives with us.  May you now know the fullness of life where there is no hunger, nakedness, or illness.  May God grant you the reward given to God’s good and faithful servants.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon them.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Francis Food Pantry.
