Day Three: Called to Listen

In her Rule, St. Clare stipulates that a woman who wishes to join the community must first compete a probationary year. After this year, she vows obedience by promising to live in poverty and in the spirit of poverty for the rest of her life.

Consider 

Living together inside the same walls does not make us a community, but listening to each other and to God does. A willingness to listen is conditioned by poverty of the heart – it is not self-indulgence but the common mission that counts. Suddenly space becomes larger.

Novena Prayer: 

St. Clare, you are our Sister on her way to Christ. We shall be like pilgrims and foreigners in this world, trustfully receiving all we need to live for the Lord. In this trust I ask you to grant me the request that is so dear to my heart:… Implore our Lord Christ in his mercy to be with us always, just as we will always be with him now and for ever. Amen.
