Saturday August 26

“The greatest among you must be your servant.” Matt 23:11

This is so contrary to the common wisdom of today’s world. Servanthood is deemed lowly and something to be avoided at all costs. We sometimes equate servant with slavery and this is far from the truth. To be enslaved means to not be free, while servanthood is a free choice to be in service to others. In today’s parlance, Jesus is the GOAT – the Greatest Of All Time and yet he gave himself completely to us, calling us to be humble servants to one another. Just as he freely chose to give himself to us, so are we invited to give of ourselves to each other.
