Daily Reflection: Friday, September 8

Friday, September 8

It’s the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her parents, Ann and Joachim, must have been thrilled when they learned that Ann was pregnant because they had been childless up to this time. There is no account of this in the Four Gospels. Today’s Gospel tells of the angel appearing to Joseph and telling him “do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.” Ann, Joachim, Joseph and Mary were people of great faith to deal with their situations in that culture and that time. They truly are bright lights for us today. We are renewed by their faith.
