Daily Reflection: Thursday, September 14

Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

…He emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness;

…he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.  (Phil 2:6-7)

Son of the Most High and God himself, Jesus reveals himself to be completely divine and perfectly human on the Cross.  The Cross is not so much a thing as a moment when we realize who he is and what he has done.  It is the stumbling block for those who don’t get it and the paradox that brings about an inexplicable understanding for believers.

We are struck dumb, no words, except to say to Jesus, “I love you.”

John Frambes, ofm
