Daily Reflection: Tuesday, September 19
Tuesday September 19
The story of the widow of Naim is familiar to many of us. We are happy that Jesus gives new life to the son of the widow, but the point may be more than what is first seen. Widows become an outcasts in their society because they have no husbands nor sons to be their protectors. So, by restoring him to life he saved the widow as well as the son. The societal reality is one that Jesus rejects. It is good for us to look beyond the surface of some of the Scripture stories and see what else Jesus may be trying to teach.
