God’s promise to Abraham was the basis for God to say to Abraham: “Fear not.” Abraham was childless and what a curse that was for those who lived at that time. Having a son would guarantee that your heritage will live on and so it was a struggle for Abraham to put his faith in God. God comes through by making a visible covenant with Abraham and his descendants. This is a very human story and has been repeated many times. “The Lord remembers his covenant forever.”
