“Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof…” This is what the centurion says to Jesus when Jesus offers to come and cure his servant. For a centurion to approach Jesus with a concern for his servant is a miracle in itself…and to come near Jesus with a humble, human request. Jesus has a great ability to “read” a situation and to response in a truly human, compassionate way. We get the idea that in the tough, formal, disciplined world of the centurion, he stands out as being very different.
