Daily Reflection: Wednesday, June 30

Wednesday, June 30

Wednesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time

God said to Abraham, “…Heed the demands of Sarah, no matter what she is asking of you.”

We are shocked by Sarah’s cold heart when she directs Abraham to turn out Hagar and Ishmael, her son by Abraham.  God says, Do what she says.  The great rabbis teach the concept shalom bayit, the prime importance of peace and harmony in the home.  Spouses show holiness by working hard to make their marriage peaceful.  This is a lifelong project.  No matter what!  I offer this today not to suggest becoming a doormat for one’s spouse, but as food for thought.  Show the holiness of God.
