Daily Reflection: Monday, July 1

Monday July 1

The words of the scribe in today’s Gospel reflect what we used to call “first fervor”! “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus very quickly makes it real: “. . . the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” The enthusiasm of an initial response to the teachings of Jesus may wane as the reality of Gospel living becomes challenging. Following Jesus is tough even though he tells us that his yoke is easy! The best part is that he promises to be with us and gives us the Spirit to sustain us as we progress on the journey to the kingdom. May we re-enkindle our ‘first fervor” and allow it to deepen into a mature faith. May we live as Jesus did, with enthusiasm and trust in the goodness of God!
