Daily Reflection: Monday, June 6
Monday, June 6
As we begin a new week and the day after Pentecost, the church celebrates the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Mother of the Church. This title and celebration added to the church calendar by Pope Francis to emphasize that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, but the Mother of the Church, our Mother. A statue of Mary that was given to me shows Mary with her arms wide open and embracing people of various ethnic groups and ages, Mother of the Church and Mother of all people. We honor her as the first disciple of Jesus. Her standing at the cross as she grieved over her Son, she is now the first one to comfort those broken and grieving. We pray: Mary, Mother of the Church and our Mother, comfort and stay with all people who are in pain or are broken.
