Daily Reflection: Monday, December 12
Monday December 12, 2022 Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
“Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with God.” Luke 1:30
Luke’s Gospel tells us of these words of the angel Gabriel to Mary at the annunciation. Mary was a young, simple girl who was open to God’s will in her life. Gabriel told Mary not to worry, that God was doing great things with her – that she was enough!
The story of the Virgin of Guadalupe has Mary telling Juan Diego not to be afraid, that he had what he needed to be her voice, to be the instrument of God’s love for the Mexican people. He was afraid because he was a simple man and the Bishop did not want to listen to him, but he was enough!
Both are stories of humble and simple people who were called to be instruments of God’s love and grace. We also are enough – no matter our status in life, we are capable of being God’s instruments in our world. May we listen as Mary and Juan Diego did and respond with all of our being to God’s invitations.
