Daily Reflection: Tuesday, December 13

Tuesday December 13, 2022

“The Lord hears the cry of the poor.”

Today’s first reading tells of a remnant that God will leave in Israel, a people humble and lowly, who will take refuge in the name of the Lord. God’s care for the poor is a constant refrain throughout the Gospel of Jesus. God chose the poor as the people who would hear his voice and live in his love. We live in a society where those who are poor are not reverenced as Jesus would have them be. The desire to get ahead, to be rich in the things of this world, are constant temptations that at times can take us away from the teachings of Jesus. We are called to truly see those who live in poverty, and to ensure that all people have the means to live with dignity.
