Today begins the ‘mini-season’ of the O Antiphons. From the 17th to the 24th we are treated to Messianic titles beginning today with “Wisdom of God Most High”. They are special ways of calling to mind the attributes of the Messiah that help to prepare us for the great feast of Christmas. The Antiphons are used at the praying of the Magnificat at evening prayer in the Church’s Liturgy of the Hours. They are repeated at the Gospel acclamation each day from now until Christmas Eve. Let us reflect on these ancient expressions of God’s action in our world and allow God to speak to us through them.
