In today’s scriptures we hear about the birth of two important Biblical figures, Samson and John the Baptist. Both mothers had a heavenly visitor, an angel of the Lord. Angels are a big part of the Advent and Christmas seasons.

Who or what are angels? In A Concise Dictionary of Theology states that angels are messengers. God’s spiritual envoys…. their purpose being to mediate between God and human beings and to protect God’s transcendence. Our faith tradition teaches us that they are immortal creatures.

Today, we do not hear reports of a human figure with wings delivering a message to someone. However, maybe angels look like a “normal” human being that we might encounter just once in our lives, who has a spiritual message for us. Today pray for the graces you need to be open to God’s message that is being delivered in an ordinary daily event.
