Daily Reflection: Tuesday, August 16

Tuesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time

Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.  (Mt 19:23)

Hard?  I’ll take my chances.   It is not right of me to judge, but it seems like some people  trust in wealth more than in God.  Their wealth has become a distraction from God and, therefore, an obstacle to inclusion in the Kingdom.

Materially rich or materially poor, we can’t claw our way into the Kingdom.  We can, however, abandon the obstacles and give ourselves over to the Lord.  With him all things are possible, even entry to the Kingdom.

John Frambes,  ofm
