Daily Reflection: Wednesday, August 17

Wednesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time

Summon the laborers and give them their pay,
beginning with the last and ending with the first.’
When those who had started about five o’clock came,
each received the usual daily wage.
(Mt 29:8-9)

Late for work?  If we are serious about our life with God, now and then, we get the feeling that we started late.  There are thoughts like: Why didn’t I realize? Why did I not do this sooner.  If our on-going conversion is not like that, it probably isn’t happening.  So, let’s give thanks for the late awakenings.  They are a gift.  In this familiar parable, all the workers are treated alike, the early and the late.  And why?  Because God likes it.
