Daily Reflection: Friday, September 9

Friday, September 9

St. Peter Claver, whose memorial is today, led an amazing life. He was a Jesuit who was sent to Cartagena, Columbia to minister to the slaves in the main slave trade market of the Americas. He would board their ships, minister to their many needs, instruct them and it is said that he baptized 300,000 slaves. In the first reading today St. Paul says: “…I have made myself a slave to all…I have become all things to all.” St. Peter Claver was able to break through the culture of his time and moved freely among those who were not free and give them what he was able to give them. Pray that some of Peter Claver rubs off onto you.

Fr. Andrew
