Daily Reflection: Thursday, September 15

Thursday, Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

And you yourself a sword will pierce….   (Luke 2:25)

Simeon spoke prophetically to Mary when she and her husband presented their son in the Temple.  The prophecy was fulfilled as she stood before Jesus at his crucifiction.  In every trouble, Jesus is the source of our peace, but his mother embodies his consolation for us.  We think of every parent whose child is in trouble.  Mary gets it.  She is there with the consolation that is the gift of her own child.
