Daily Reflection: Friday, January 19

Friday January 19

Jesus chose twelve out of all his followers whom he would send out to preach and drive out demons. (Obviously not everyone would be the right material for his ministry.) Jesus read the hearts of each (including Judas) and invited them to be part of his life in an intimate way. They were ‘trained’ if you will by spending time with him and watching how he healed, forgave, and had mercy on all who came to him. The Twelve were slow at times in learning his lessons, but with the help of the Holy Spirit after the death and resurrection of Jesus, most would carry his mission into the far corners of the world. We are to be ’trained’ for ministry in the same way – by spending time with Jesus and learning from his example how to continue his mission.
