Daily Reflection: Thursday, February 1

Thursday, February 1, 2024 – 4th Sunday in Ordinary time

In today’s gospel we are given a very difficult command; not to hold grudges against those who have wronged us. When someone hurts us physically, mentally or spiritually we sometimes want revenge. We want them to feel the hurt we have felt and sometimes feel more hurt than what they caused. It is like the old saying an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. When Jesus sent the twelve out he told them “Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” He saying walking away and leaving the dust (resentment) behind, we will be carrying less and will be more open to seeing God in others.
