Daily Reflection: Tuesday, January 31

Tuesday.  Memorial of St. John Bosco, Priest

The child is not dead but asleep.  [Mk 5:39]

Jairus, a synagogue official, has pleaded for his daughter who is gravely ill.  By the time Jesus gets there, the child is dead.  But Jesus says not.

Bending the story a bit, consider parents who worry about their children whose faith seems dead.  Maybe it is only “asleep”.  Jesus gently woke the little girl by taking her hand.  How can we lead our adult children by the hand and bring them to a good place where their faith will awaken?  Jesus is our model.
