Daily Scripture Reflection - Thursday of Holy Week

Today I would like to reflect on the reading from the Chrism Mass. Most Catholics have never attended a Chrism Mass. The Chrism Mass is where the Bishop blesses the holy oils that will be used in the coming year. Holy Oils are: Oil of the Sick, Oil of Catechumens, and Oil of Chrism. The readings for the Chrism Mass focus on Jesus’ divinity and God of all power. God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The second reading from the Book of Revelation affirms our belief that there is no beginning or end of God. That God has always existed, and the creator of all. “I am the Alpha, and the Omega says the Lord.”

The first reading from the Prophet Isaiah, telling us that the Spirit of the Lord God was upon him, he was anointed/commission to be a prophet. To tell us about God’s everlasting covenant with us.

The Gospel reading, Jesus uses the section heard from Isaiah to affirm his divinity, his union with God and the Spirit. Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with us; to bring glad tidings to the poor. He sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of the sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

Reflect on God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
