Daily Reflection: Friday September 27

“There is a time for everything under the heavens.” We often hear this reading at a funeral liturgy, noting the lines: “a time to be born and a time to die.” This gives some people comfort believing that God appoints our times of birth and death. I sometimes question this, especially in times of violent deaths. I believe that God desires life for us and the ‘time’ referred to in Ecclesiastes may have less to do with physical time and more with our taking advantage of the things we are offered by God (and by life itself)! Let us plant, heal, build, dance, gather and embrace. Let us speak and love and work for peace. Let us make God’s time our time!
