Daily Reflection: Monday December 9

Today we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary, not the Immaculate Conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary. The feast is transferred from yesterday which liturgically must be celebrated as the Second Sunday of Advent. This feast gives us a picture of Mary as chosen from before her birth as the purest vessel for God to use to unite divinity with humanity. Mary nourished Jesus in her womb and provided him with all he would need to be God’s gift to all creation. Mary, mother of Jesus, enable us to follow you in bringing Jesus to birth in our world.
