Daily Reflection: Tuesday, January 2

Memorial of St Basil the Great and St Gregory Nazianzen, Bishops and Doctors

Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you.

If what you heard from the beginning remains in you,

then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.

And this is the promise he made us: eternal life.  (I John 2:24-25)

This recalls the teaching of Jesus in the gospel of John (5:24): Whoever hears my world and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.  The letter is an appeal in tough times, not to waver but to remain faithful.  By waiting and by calm you will be saved. (Is 30:15)
