Saturday, March 25
The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is celebrated today. Mary’s first reaction to the angel Gabriel was to be “greatly trouble” and then the angel told her “Do not be afraid, for you have found favor with God.” The dialogue between Mary and Gabriel continues because Mary knows that she has had “no relations with a man.” Finally, Mary says: “May it be done to me according to your word.” We see a brave and trusting young woman placing her life in “God’s hands.” We learn much from this encounter: trust takes time but it is possible.
