Daily Reflection: Monday, April 24

April 24  Monday of the Third Week of Easter

All who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him [Stephen] and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.  (Acts 6:15)

Arrested, Stephen was brought to give testimony before the hostile Sanhedrin.  Angles are the ones who gaze on the face of God.  If Stephen looked liked them, he must have shown great confidence and calm and peace.  We can aspire to that.

In today’s gospel, the crowd wondered, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”  Jesus response: “This is the work of God, that you believe in the the one he sent.” (Jn 6:29)  Stephen did that work.  It is work.  It is our work.
