Memorial of Saint Boniface, Martyr

A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.  (Mk 12:47)

The poor widow is de facto one of God’s anawim, God’s little ones.  Jesus is not inviting us to penury, but rather to humility and simplicity.  The widow is perfect in her submission to God.  Our goal then is the wholehearted and peaceful offering of ourselves to God.
