“My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” Jesus says this in reply to being told his family was wanting to see him, in today’s gospel reading. Jesus was not being rude or disowning his family. He was using this as teachable moment, to teach his listeners about God’s love. How God’s loves us like a family member. It is also teaches us that to be followers of Christ, we need to act on God’s word and that word is love, to love each other as family.
