Daily Reflection: Friday, April 5

Friday of the First Week of Easter

After the crippled man had been cured,

while Peter and John were still speaking to the people,

the priests, the captain of the the temple guard and the Sadducees confronted them, disturbed that they were teaching the people

and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

They laid hands on Peter and John

and put them in custody….    (Acts 4:1-3)

Most of us are nice, gentle people and, I suppose, the early disciples were, too.

But their message was galling to the establishment.  It rocked the boat.

It is always risky to rock the boat and those disciples were ready to take the risk in order to spread the good news of Jesus.

Do we avoid rocking the boat because we are too nice and polite?  That doesn’t help the reign of God much.
