Daily Reflection: Saturday, April 6

Saturday of the First Week of Easter

She [Mary Magdalene] went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping.  When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they not believe. After this he appeared in another form to two of them walking along on their way to the country.  They returned and told the others; but they did not believe them either.  (Mk 16:10-13)

In the gospel of Mark, the first reaction to the news of the Resurrection of Jesus is not to believe.  We may imagine that they, dear friends and companions of Jesus, would want to believe.  No doubt we know people whom we think ought to believe, but don’t.  Their obstacle may be the faulty Christians they know, but it also may just be that faith is not easy.  They deserve our kindness and our prayers, not judgement.
