“It is I. Do not be afraid.” John 6:20
The disciples were afraid when they saw Jesus walking on the water! Wouldn’t you be??? This phenomenon was a bit out of the ordinary even for Jesus! But Jesus told them not to be afraid. He tells us this again and again in the Gospels, knowing that things that are not in our control can cause us to fear. The key here is the first part of this quote: “It is I.” Jesus is the reason for us not to be afraid. Jesus is the one in whom we are invited to trust. Jesus is the one who is present always, the one who can calm our fears if only we recognize his presence. Let us see Jesus in all those moments we are tempted to fear, knowing that with him, we are never alone to face whatever makes us afraid.
