Daily Reflection: Friday, July 1

Friday, July 1

St. Juniper Serra is today’s saint. There was much controversy about his being made a saint. He founded 9 of the 21 California Missions. He clashed with the Spanish authorities over their treatment of the Indians although it is said that he could be strict with them. Jesus gives us the example of reaching out to others and inviting them to follow him when he says to Matthew “Follow me.” The people and the authorities at that time were continually shocked when Jesus reached out to “tax collectors and sinners.” All are God’s children.

Fr. Andrew
