Daily Reflection: Saturday, July 30

July 30   Saturday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time

His disciples came and to away the corpse [of John the Baptist] and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.  When Jesus heard of it, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself.   (Mt 1412-13)

I am always impressed by the humanity of the Scriptures (and Jesus).  Jesus was probably ratttled by the execution of John and he needed some space to sort things out.   He needed to grieve and to ponder the course of his own life.  Jesus reveals the mysteries of God, but he also reveals the goodness of our humanity with its weakness, confusion and emotion.  There is no need to be embarrassed.  Jesus knows.
