Monday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time
When you hold a banquet…. (Lk 14:13)
We know who Jesus puts on the guest list: the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind. They represent all the special guests who require extra attention. Jesus imagines that we are the host. The host will, of course, attend to the logistics of the meal and, especially, the needs of the special guests, but the host’s main job is making the guests feel welcome and comfortable. The special guests don’t always get that, so it means a lot. On the host’s part, it could require some conversion.
The banquet is not just a meal; it is life.
