Daily Reflection: Tuesday, November 7

Tuesday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time

Blessed is the one who will dine in the Kingdom of God. (Lk 14:15)

Jesus did not say that, but one of the guests at table with him!

At Mepkin Abbey all the monks stand at their seats until everyone has his food.  A bell rings and one of the monks in a loud voice says, “Blessed are they who shall feast in the Kingdom of God!  And everyone repeats it.  Then comes the blessing.  I love those meals with the peaceful community of monks.  It feels like the Kingdom of God is happening then and there.

Is the feast of the Kingdom now or later?  The answer is Yes.  We are all God’s guests. And recalling yesterday’s reading, we are all called to be hosts and servants at the Great Feast.  It is a joyful thing.
