Friday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

See your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.  (Mt 12:2)

The Pharisees were only trying to preserve God’s great gift of the sabbath.  Nothing wrong with that, but they overlooked the humanity of the disciples.  The Pharisees had an investment in the rules, but our first priority has to be the good of others.  That is where our joy lies.

Mercy, not sacrifice.
