Daily Reflection: Thursday, July 27

Thursday July 27

In today’s reading from the book of Exodus, God’s presence is obvious in loud and fiery weather activities- thunder, smoke, fire, and violent trembling on the mountain. The people had been brought to the foot of the mountain to meet God and they could not miss God’s call via the trumpet blast. Nature itself recognized that God was present!

When we are in the midst of violent weather, we may not be thinking of God’s presence, at least not in a positive way! Loud storms and strong winds are more likely to bring out our fears both for our own safety and for that of Mother Earth. May we recognize God’s hand in fair weather and foul and know that God is always with us and invites us not to be afraid.
