Daily Reflection: Friday, March 10

Friday March 10

Both readings today speak to us of jealousy and greed. The brothers of Joseph wanted what he had – the special place in their father’s heart. They attempted to kill him, but in the end sold him for twenty pieces of silver. The tenants in the Gospel wanted the land and its produce, even to the point of killing the owner’s son. Their love for what they saw as rightfully theirs was the source of the evil actions that they did. Neither the brothers nor the tenants were satisfied with what they had and were willing to cross the line to get it. How are we like them? Do we allow the desire for what think is our due push us to act in ways that are contrary to living as one family in God? Are positions and goods more important than loving relationships?
