Daily Reflection: Saturday, May 25

Saturday, May 25

We hear in today’s Letter of St. James how to deal with someone who is ill: “summon the presbyters of the church and they should pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” This is the text used for the Anointing of the Sick. It further says that: “the prayer of faith will save the sick person…and if they have committed any sins, they will be forgiven.” These are comforting words. This sacrament is frequently offered to an individual but we also can experience it in a communal setting at a Mass. This is such a healing time for those who are ill either physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Remember in prayer those who are ill.
