Proverbs 21:1-6,10-13
“He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor, will himself call and not be heard” - a rather harsh condemnation of those who do not attend to the cry of the poor. We are called as followers of Jesus to listen for the cry of those who are poor and do what we can to alleviate their cries. This is not a suggestion, but a mandate. We respond by sharing what we have, but also by working to change systems that keep others in poverty. We do this, not out of fear of how it will affect us, but out of love for all our sisters and brothers.
