Our first reading from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians continues discussing household codes, how a household should be structured. Paul is using these household rules, seems to be harsh and giving totally authority to man of the house to our 21st Century ears. Paul is telling his readers especially the men of the household, just because they have total control of their household, they are not to abuse their power. What should motivate a Christian in all their actions is love. Paul writes, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord. Today reflect on, do my actions provoke love or anger.
