Letter from the Pastor
Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday, September 25, 2022

One of the lessons I learned from my time at St. Bonaventure University is that the school would never be able to operate on tuition alone.  There is a surprising tone to that since we all know that tuition for a college degree is very expensive, but it is true.  The same can be said for a parish.  We do need to have a variety of fundraisers throughout the year to help bridge the gap between the Sunday collections, bequests, gifts and donations, and our annual expenses.  From my experience at St. Bonaventure, I saw the need to hire a Director of Development for the parish to coordinate and advance the initiatives that bridge our budgetary gap.  Sadly, with Barbara Truncellito’s passing, we need to fill the position much sooner than any of us had anticipated.

We have just begun a search for a new Director of Development.  The position is posted on the local search engines as well as our own website.  We are looking for someone who, believing in the mission and work of St. Francis Parish, has the experience and skills to coordinate the variety of events that will allow our parish to continue to grow and move forward. If you are interested in the position, I would invite you to visit our website to learn more about it and submit your resume to Amy Bodine, our Director of Human Resources.

Related to that, I also would like to report to you that after sifted through all the details, the Festival of the Sea 2022 added $55,996.81 to our general fund.  That is a great help to us, and we certainly could not meet our expenses without it.  Once again, I thank everyone who made it possible.  Thank you to all the volunteers, committee members, sponsors, and everyone who attended.

The other good news I share with you is that as of Wednesday, Sept. 21st, we only have 203 car raffle books left!  If you are planning to take a chance on this year’s cars, I would suggest you do it quickly.  I have no doubt that we are going to sell out once again.

Finally, if you like pasta, you are going to love this year’s Spaghetti Dinner.  Joe and Lorri D’Orsi are preparing the tomato sauce already.  [I have already had a sample… you won’t want to miss this.]  The spaghetti dinner is Oct. 8 in the St. Francis Center, the night of the car raffle drawing.  You can purchase your tickets at the front desk at the Center or on our webpage.  It is a lot of fun.  I hope you can come and enjoy the evening!

May God continue to bless you and your families with peace and all good!
