Daily Reflection: Friday, July 19

Friday, July 19

Today’s Gospel from Matthew has the verse: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” Jesus

is responding to the Pharisees who notice that the disciples are picking grain and

eating it on a Sabbath and that was unlawful according to his critics. He gives

examples of how they do this over and over again. Human need is something that

Jesus responds to whenever and wherever he encounters it. Human made rules

can be secondary when He notices a human need. What a great insight and how it

influenced Jesus. Sometimes, it takes such an insight to help someone in need.

Has this every happened to you?

Fr. Andrew
