Daily Reflection: Saturday, July 27

Stand at the gate of the house of the Lord
and proclaim this message there:
Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah
who enter these gates to worship the Lord!
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:
Reform your ways and your deeds,
so that I may remain with you in this place.
(Jer 7:1-3)

It is not the temple per se that is important, but the conduct of the people.  Through the prophet Jeremiah, God says that he cannot maintain his presence with them if they live in sinful and unjust ways.  He can’t stand to be with them if they won’t straighten up.  And God really wants to be with them.
